THE LIFEGUARD DIARIES

NEW WRITING

THE LIFEGUARD DIARIES

A NOVEL, A ONE-WOMAN SHOW OR A TV SHOW IN DEVELOPMENT

One hot Shabbat evening at sunset, a thirty-something, size 14 British woman meets a toned, tanned 28 year-old Israeli lifeguard on Tel Aviv Beach.

In just one hour, everything changes: her summer of existential self-doubt set amidst crumbling sub-lets transforms into one of sunset adventures, secret meet-ups and almost-naked night swimming. Until, unexpectedly, the fantasy comes crashing down, like a big wave on the infamous Gordon Beach rocks.

The Lifeguard Diaries is the jaw-dropping, chronological story of a summer that changed a woman's life.

Inspired by real life events, it's written in a first-person, confessional style, full of eye-wincing comedy and wry observations. Early readers have compared the text to the chick-lit legend that is Bridget Jones’s Diary, as well as award-winning contemporary British TV shows Catastrophe (Channel 4) and Fleabag (BBC).

The story could turn into a summer romance novel that takes Tel Aviv into the hearts of the Jewish community and beyond, or it could be developed into a one-woman theatre show or TV series for Israeli TV. Natalie is still working out the future for this piece, which is loved by olim and native Israelis alike.

In the mean time, here is some praise from the sold-out live readings she has given at Golden Sun Kombucha in Tel Aviv…

"It's a miserable day today in Tel Aviv. My roof is leaking, I'm freezing – It's the perfect day to snuggle up on the sofa with a copy of The Lifeguard Diaries and a cup of tea and laugh out loud while I'm reminded of the hot summers we all love in this city. Pretty sure it would be a best-seller if you finish it!"

Sarah G, Tel Aviv and London
